The Focus: The United Nations recently reported that 166 countries closed schools to limit the spread of the coronavirus. One and a half billion children and young people are affected, representing 87 percent of the enrolled population. Schools are closed and this puts additional stress on education systems in developing countries, many of which are struggling to provide quality education for all. Many school systems are turning to technology as an alternative to in-school instruction. Classes have gone online, while many educators talk of “reimagining” education in ways that will shift it from a classroom and teacher-centered model.

The Focus: We live in uncertain times. The world has changed dramatically because of the rapid spread of the Covid-19 virus. The pandemic has resulted in the loss of family members, financial instability, unemployment is some of the challenges turning our lives upside down. With the schools remained closed for more than a year, the McKinsey survey (March-2021) says that COVID-19 has induced the largest remote learning experiment in history. The schools are also affected in many ways in terms of financials, learning loss, unemployment of teachers, and mental health. In this context, leaders with strong and decisive leadership can make a big difference in how quickly we emerge from this difficult situation.
